Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a spiral-shaped, Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium that lives in the human stomach, despite its extremely acidic pH. Infections of the gastric mucosa lead to gastric diseases such as peptic ulcers or chronic gastritis. Furthermore, H. pylori infection is associated with the development of gastric cancer and MALT lymphomas (MALT = Mucosa Associated Lymphoid Tissue). The antibody is suitable for detecting the bacterial infection in epithelial cells of the stomach and duodenum.
