Calretinin, also known as calbindin 2, is a vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein involved in calcium signaling. It is present in subsets of neurons throughout the brain and spinal cord, including sensory ganglia. It also labels mesothelial and Leydig cells under normal and neoplastic conditions. Calretinin is therefore useful in distinguishing mesotheliomas from adenocarcinomas of the lung and other sources.
