NKX3.1 is a transcription factor that acts as a putative tumor suppressor of the prostate. It is widely expressed in the prostate and is androgen-regulated. NKX3.1 is expressed in normal prostate epithelium. Loss of the protein is a common finding in human prostate cancer and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia. The NKX3.1 antibody is a highly sensitive and specific marker for prostate adenocarcinoma and is suitable for use in a panel with other prostate markers such as PSA, PSAP, or prostein, particularly in poorly differentiated tumors where PSA, PSAP, and/or prostein are weakly expressed or may be lost. Primary and metastatic prostate carcinomas show lower NKX3.1 staining intensity than normal prostate.
