C4d (complement 4d) is a stable cleavage product resulting from classical complement activation. It is covalently bound to endothelium and basement membrane following induction of the classical antibody-induced pathway. It is an established marker for antibody-mediated acute renal transplant rejection, a significant predictor of renal transplant survival, and an adjunct for the treatment of acute rejection.
