CD10, also known as CALLA, is a zinc-dependent cell surface enzyme with neutral metalloendopeptidase activity that inactivates a variety of biologically active peptides. CD10 is used to detect childhood leukemia and a variety of B-cell lymphomas. It is expressed on the cells of lymphoblastic, Burkitt's, and follicular germinal center lymphomas, as well as on cells from patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). It is also expressed on the surface of normal early lymphoid progenitor cells, immature B cells in adult bone marrow, and germinal center B cells in lymphoid tissue. It also reacts with glomerular epithelial cells, the brush border of the proximal tubules, and other non-lymphoid cells such as mammary myoepithelial cells, bile canaliculi, neutrophils, and a small population of bone marrow cells, fetal small intestinal epithelium, and normal fibroblasts.
