CD23 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein involved in B cell activation, B cell growth, and the regulation of IgE levels. It is detected on mature B cells, activated macrophages, eosinophils, follicular dendritic cells, and platelets. CD23 can be helpful in the detection of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), follicular dendritic cell tumors, mediastinal large B-cell lymphomas, and mantle cell lymphomas. In diagnostic pathology, CD23 is primarily used in the panel for small B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders.
