CD8 is a transmembrane glycoprotein and coreceptor that functions alongside the T cell receptor (TCR) in the adaptive immune response. CD8 is expressed primarily on cytotoxic T cells, as well as on natural killer cells, cortical thymocytes, and dendritic cells. CD8 is also expressed in T-cell LGL leukemia and, along with CD4, in some T lymphoblastic lymphomas. CD8 can be detected in colorectal carcinomas and ovarian, renal, hepatocellular, and esophageal tumors.
