Influenza, commonly known as "the flu", is an infectious disease of birds and mammals caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Influenza A virus subtype H5 (such as H5N1) usually causes the disease avian influenza (often referred to as "bird flu"), but occasionally infect humans.
